With an ever increasing order book and relentless demands on production capacity, the time has arrived to commence a second shift at the Maidenhead plant. Plans are in place to begin the formation of a second production shift to form a powerful "hit-squad" capable of breaking the bottlenecks we often experience when producing such a wide variety of products.
Demand for production time is always pressing, and the inception of a second shift which will add a further six hours to our capacity is a welcome relief for EGL Production Manager, Lee Waugh. With the formation of a small team capable of being deployed as required and at short notice, the prospects are strong for clearing the "log-jams" which build up in hours when processes inevitably overlap. Our incredibly diverse product range means that the ability to plan throughput sensibly is often removed. Finding capacity on the vast array of machinery at his disposal is never an easy task, but Lee is confident that the addition of another shift will yield a minimum of 25% extra capacity.
Good news for the customers, and good news for the Sales team who are always being asked to accept orders with incredibly short lead times!
Managing Director Steve Tilbury says "With the increase in new business, largely attributed to our successful web marketing strategy and recent acquisition, we needed to re-inforce our production capabilities. The second shift makes sense which ever way you look at it; additional hands can tackle the problem in the hours when traditionally the machines were stood idle. This not only gives us the ability to complete customer orders to the required deadlines, but also to make good use of the production capabilities so that contract orders can be manufactured at times to benefit us. It becomes a win-win situation for all parties concerned!" |
